Course Description:
This is a hands-on course intended to teach students computer programming in a graphical user interface
environment. We use Visual Basic.NET as a vehicle for this because of its more intuitive interface. Students
will learn how to create Visual Basic programs for a wide variety of applications using forms, objects,
functions, procedures, arrays, and disk files. Grades will be based on two exams and homework assignments.
Course Outcomes:
At the conclusion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe the basic problem solving steps and how they relate to computer programming
- Understand and do object-oriented programming
- Understand and use classes, objects, properties, methods, and events
- List and describe the three steps for writing a Visual Basic project
- Describe the various files that make up a Visual Basic project
- Describe the process of visual program design and development
- Document a logical program design
- Design, write, test and debug Visual Basic.NET programs
